People asked if they want to volunteer at Tokyo 2020 Olympics, 60% say “no”
In 2020, Tokyo will host the Olympics and Paralympics. The Sasagawa Sports Foundation asked 10,000 people between the ages of 20 and 69 as to whether or not they would be interested in volunteering at the games.
According to the report, only 23% of the people asked answered “yes”, with 60% stating that they had no desire to volunteer at the Olympics.
People who had an interest in volunteering for the games stated that their reasoning was due to the Olympics being the biggest sporting event in the world and that they loved sports.
When asked about volunteering in the Paralympics, only 17% stated that they would like to volunteer, with 64% showing no interest.
There are over 100,000 volunteering roles that need to be fulfilled for the 2020 Olympics, and Japanese citizenship is not a requirement, meaning that foreigners may apply so long as they have a valid visa.
